“Right, so if you need anything, anything at all, you’ll call?”
- NoSleep for Mac OS X is a program to prevent your MacBook from sleeping. On a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or Macbook with traditional clamshell mode, an external display, mouse, and keyboard must be attached in order to maintain the running closed-lid clamshell state.
- How to Set Mac System Sleep Idle Time from the Command Line. You can set the amount of idle time in minutes that need to elapse before a Mac goes to sleep with the following syntax, in this example we’ll use 60 meaning an hour of inactivity before the Mac sleeps: sudo systemsetup -setcomputersleep 60.

I gave the nervous woman, my night’s employer, what I hoped was my most reassuring smile. “Abigail and I will be just fine. I’ve babysat dozens of times with no issues whatsoever.” I didn’t remind her that my relevant job experience only consisted of looking after my own siblings.
“You go out and enjoy your lady’s night.” Mac 250 wash manual pdf file.
The woman took a long exhale, releasing some of her pent up tension. She shook her head as if dispelling any lingering doubts, and shot me a tight smile. “I’m sorry to be such a worry-wart, it’s just that things have been difficult. With my boyfriend now out of the picture, Abby’s been withdrawn. She’s taken his absence pretty hard. He was like a surrogate father to her, after all.”
I looked over at the four-year old who sat coloring at the kitchen table. Her face was scrunched up in concentration, as she scribbled with first a black and then a yellow crayon.
“We’ll be fine!” I said again.
Five minutes later I found myself alone in the house with the girl. “So Abby, what do you want to do tonight?” The girl didn’t look up from her Crayola masterpiece, didn’t respond. I tried again, “Maybe we could play a game or watch a Disney movie?”
The toddler continued to ignore me, and I felt a bit incensed. I took a deep breath, thinking.

Perhaps, she was just leery of a new person in the house? I approached her slowly, not wishing to startle her. The last thing I wanted to do was frighten her – an upset child meant an uncontrollable child. I sat down across from her and reached for one of the various blank papers spread across the table. Selecting an orange crayon, I began to draw.
This caught Abby’s attention, and she surreptitiously looked up from her own piece of paper. As I drew – first a rounded head, and then two pointy ears – I began to talk. “You know, Abby, I used to have an orange tabby cat named Tigger. He had the softest fur, and the most rumbly purr. He used to sleep on the pillow above my head every night.”
The child was watching me openly now. “He was the best cat and I loved him very, very much. But one day, my brother discovered Tigger had gone missing. The family looked everywhere for him, but never found him. With Tigger gone I felt very sad, but then one day on the way home from school I came across a stray cat. She was a big fluffy cat, with large green eyes. I took her home and soon after that, she began to sleep on the pillow above my head.”
I gave Abby a warm smile. “Even though sometimes those we care about leave us, there is always room in our hearts for others to join them. Do you understand?” Stillness reigned for a few moments before the girl finally gave the smallest of nods.
Relief suffused me, as in that moment I was sure I had gained her confidence. Sophos mac manual uninstall.
The quiet that lingered was broken by a sound. The barest of vibrations – a soft growl - reached my ears, and I thought perhaps it was coming from Abby. “Are you hungry?” I asked. I glanced at the clock - 6:00pm. “I can make us some sandwiches.”
I was startled to hear the girl’s voice, “Mac”. In shock from her sudden exclamation, I echoed back, “Mac?” I let the word filter through my mind, “Do you want Mac and Cheese?”
Abby’s only response was to stare at me with large, solemn eyes.
“Mac and cheese shouldn’t be a problem, I’m a great cook after all!” I made to get up from the table, when the girl’s hand shot out and latched onto my wrist. My eyes flew to her face, but rather than her brown eyes, I was met with locks of curly hair. Her head was turned to the side, and I could see she was looking at something outside the bounds of the kitchen.
The hair at the back of my neck stood on end, and I felt and odd sense of foreboding. Moving toward the child, I peered around the doorway. It opened up into a hallway, which dead ended in a small office. On either side of the hallway was a bedroom – one was Abby’s, one was her mother’s.
With the lights off in all but the kitchen, the hall was drenched in shadows. I scrutinized the darkness and saw to my horror that a large silhouette stood in the doorway of the mother’s room. My breath hitched and I pulled Abby out of her chair, tucking her behind me. I felt her flinch as my fingers dug into the skin of her arms, but my hold – possessive by all accounts – did not lessen.
I watched as the shape, bipedal in nature, moved out from the doorway. It moved slowly, purposefully, as if it had intent.
“Who are you,” I demanded, “what do you want?” I made certain that my voice remained firm, unwavering. It wasn’t that difficult. Oddly enough a dormant fury, one I had not felt in a long while rose with in me.
I heard a word whispered from the girl behind me, “Mac.” And this time I was surer of the word’s meaning – a name.
I backed Abby toward the back door, never removing my gaze from the intruder. I wondered then how he had gotten in, and what it was he wanted. A sick thought came to me. Perhaps, this was the mother’s ex-lover returning for the child.
My fears only grew as the form stepped into the light of the kitchen. It revealed itself to be semi-transparent in nature and gray in color.
The man, or rather the former man, locked gazes with me - surprisingly his irises still maintained their vibrant pop of blue. As he peered into my own baby blues, I felt as if he could see every thought, every memory contained within my brain.
He must have seen something within me that he didn’t like for he let out a growl – a sound not dissimilar to the one a cat makes when incensed.
I let out a yell and lunged for the door, dragging Abby with me. Before I could rotate my wrist the door handle turned by itself beneath my palm. The door opened to reveal Abby’s mother standing there.

Surprise flashed across her face as she took in our proximity and my alarmed countenance. “What’s going on?” she asked, her attention shifting immediately to her daughter, as if checking her for injury.
I started to mumble something, started to turn and point out the specter, but I found that the kitchen now stood empty. “I-I thought…,” I trailed off unsure now of my sanity. I don’t know why, but the words, “there was a big spider,” tumbled from my mouth.
Abby didn’t contradict me.
The mother’s face relaxed into a placating smile and she let out a little chuckle. “Oh, we get those from time to time. They’re really not anything to worry about.”
I swallowed, my throat dry. “What are you doing back already?”
“One of the girl’s got sick, and we had to call it an early night,” the woman answered with a roll of her eyes. “Don’t worry, though, I’ll still pay you for the entire evening.”
Minutes later she passed me the promised $50, and I accepted it with shaking hands. Before I left, I worked up the courage to ask, “That boyfriend of yours, what was his name?”
The woman looked puzzled, but answered, “Pete.” The heavy weight inside me began to dissipate at that until she continued, “Pete MacDonald. But his friend’s just called him Mac. He had a lot of those, friends I mean. You should have seen the turnout at his funeral.”
I nodded, voiced a hurried thanks, and got the hell out of there.
I didn’t anticipate ever setting foot back in that house, so I didn’t care if my departure came across as rude. As I made my way to the car, I did my best to shake of the lingering discontent. For reassurance, I promised that I would find another babysitting gig, another child.
I smiled at that. At all the things I could do to a child less watched. A memory of a tabby cat, soft and trusting rose to mind. The way it let me pick it up, caress it lovingly before my hands found its throat and squeezed. That deep rumbling growl it made as if begging for its life. I shuddered – this time in pleasure.
Yes, I thought with a sigh, I’ll just have to find another victim.

Is there any way to prevent my MacBook Pro from sleeping when I close the lid on macOS Sierra? I used to use NoSleep on OS X El Capitan; unfortunately it stopped working properly after Yosemite and I've heard that on Sierra it causes problems, so I don't want to install it and potentially cause damage.

Does anyone use anything that they personally have used that prevents MacBooks from going to sleep when the lid is closed on macOS Sierra?

InsomniaX works perfectly on my MBP 13' 2015. I am using macOS Sierra 10.12.

There's also an app called NoSleep, but it hasn't been updated in years, only use it if you're on older OSX like Mavericks or Yosemite. I wouldn't recommend using it on Sierra.

Tested NoSleep 1.4.0 on my MacBook Air 2012 and it works with macOS High Sierra 10.13.0. Simply need to authorize the use of NoSleep kext in Security settings when warned during install.

While this command is running, you will be able to close the lid on your Mac and still have OS X and your apps running and performing their tasks just as you would if the lid were to remain open.

I actually still use NoSleep on my macbook air 2011 running on OSX Sierra and it seems to work fine still :) Haven't tried putting it on a brand new macbook pro 13 (2016) also running Sierra yet though. No sleep version 1.4.0.
